What're ya doin'?

Finishing up the summer, writing this from my home in Rochester. It's surreal that it's been exactly a year since I updated the now pages and I opened the same way. Like last year we had an amazing holiday in Martitius (even with me being sick the second week), my daughter has been at camp, or with me and W2. We adopted a new kitten and have managed to survive the absolute beast of a heat wave.

What're ya workin' on?

This time last year I was working on a Government contract, doing programme management for a vendor supplier contract. I've got some things to say about it, but that might be a blog post for another day. In November I started a new role at Hudl, which is a sports data and analytics company working in their Applied Machine Learning department. It's been weird to say the least but it's better than Government work to say the least!

AI is obviously the name of the game and one thing that's been great is being able to use that in my every day work. Not only that but I've taken on some projects like migrating my sites over to new services, which has been a great learning experience and tying it into hosting, git and trying new frameworks has been fun.

I also set up a home media server, using Openclaw and some hard drives which I managed to snag before the prices went crazy. Using AI to setup, manage, troubleshoot, automate downloads and management. I'd recommend everyone to give this a go.

What're ya playin'?

Path of Exile and 'comfy' games. I was away a lot of June and July so didn't get a huge amount of time playing games. Which surprisingly I didn't miss too much (mostly because of doing the above projects instead). One thing that did really stand out for me was ReStory which is an chill, comfy game where you run an electronics repair shop in early 2000s Japan. There's a bit of a storyline to keep things moving along, but really it's about the taking apart, cleaning, fixing and putting back together - it's relaxing, calming and scratches that itch of 'just one more'. I'd definitely give a go as a break from the norm. The music isn't half bad either.

What're ya listen' to?

Susumu Hirasawa - he did the original anime soundtrack for Berserk and you can easily fall down rabbit holes - it's a bit eccentric for sure, but well worth a listen to Spotify. Apparently his live shows are incredible.
